Vinyl flooring is the most affordable 100% waterproof floor we sell, and the quietest hard floor underfoot. Modern luxury vinyl reproduces timber and stone convincingly, and because the planks are flexible rather than rigid they are forgiving in rooms where comfort and noise matter — bedrooms, rentals, apartments and aged-care or healthcare fit-outs. The Flooring Guys stocks more than 1,500 vinyl floors — planks, tiles and sheet vinyl — across 29 brands from $15/m², with four showrooms in Sydney and Brisbane and a price-beat guarantee on any written quote. Order samples online, visit a showroom, or speak to one of our flooring specialists on 1300 477 699.

How to choose vinyl flooring
- Format: click planks float like a hybrid floor and are the most DIY-friendly; loose lay sits flat with no glue and swaps out plank by plank — ideal for rentals; glue-down is the most stable choice for commercial spaces and castor traffic.
- Wear layer: this matters more than total thickness. 0.3mm is fine for bedrooms and light traffic; 0.55mm or thicker for busy homes, pets and commercial use.
- Thickness: our range runs 2mm to 5.3mm. Thicker planks (4.5mm+) forgive minor subfloor imperfections; thin glue-down planks need a properly prepared surface — see our vinyl thickness guide.
- Plank, tile or sheet: planks read as timber boards, tiles as stone or ceramic, and sheet vinyl gives a seam-free surface that suits wet areas and commercial work.
- Budget: vinyl is the most affordable quality floor we stock, from $15/m² — compare against hybrid pricing.

Vinyl Flooring FAQ
Is vinyl flooring waterproof?
Yes — vinyl planks are 100% waterproof, including the core, which makes them a favourite for kitchens, laundries and bathrooms. As with any floating floor, don’t let water pool at the edges.
Vinyl or hybrid — which should I pick?
Vinyl is softer, quieter underfoot and cheaper; hybrid is more rigid and more dent-resistant. Both are 100% waterproof. See the full comparison.
What is the difference between click, loose lay and glue-down vinyl?
Click planks float like a hybrid floor and are the most DIY-friendly. Loose lay sits flat under its own weight with no adhesive, so individual planks lift out and swap — ideal for rentals. Glue-down is bonded to the subfloor and is the most stable option for commercial fit-outs and heavy castor traffic.
Do I need underlay for vinyl flooring?
Glue-down and loose lay vinyl don’t use underlay — they need direct contact with the subfloor. Some click ranges include a pre-attached acoustic backing. See our underlay guide.
Can I lay vinyl over existing floors?
Over tiles, concrete and firm floorboards, yes — provided the surface is flat, clean and dry. Grout lines need filling or they can telegraph through thinner planks. See our concrete guide.
How thick should vinyl flooring be?
Most of our range runs 2mm to 5.3mm. Thinner glue-down planks (2–2.5mm) suit flat, well-prepared subfloors; 4.5–5mm click and loose lay planks are more forgiving of minor imperfections. The wear layer matters more than total thickness for durability — see our vinyl thickness guide.
Is vinyl flooring good for pets?
One of the best choices — waterproof, scratch-resistant and easy to clean. For dogs we recommend a 0.55mm wear layer or thicker.
Is vinyl flooring suitable for apartments?
Yes, and it is one of the quieter hard floors underfoot. Check your building’s acoustic requirement before ordering — strata schemes usually specify a minimum rating, and glue-down vinyl generally performs well against it.
How do I clean vinyl flooring?
Sweep or vacuum regularly (no beater bar) and damp-mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid bleach, abrasive pads, steam mops and wax- or oil-based polishes. See our care and maintenance guide.
Can I price-match a vinyl flooring quote?
Yes. Upload a written quote from any competing Australian retailer and we will beat it. Use the Price Beat Request form on this page or any product page.
