How to choose carpet

• Fibre. Wool is naturally resilient, insulating and flame-resistant. Solution-dyed nylon has the colour locked into the fibre, so it shrugs off bleach, sun and pet accidents — the best choice for hallways, stairs and kids’ rooms. Polyester is soft, fade-resistant and the most affordable.
• Construction. Cut pile (plush and twist) feels soft and hides footprints better as the twist tightens. Loop pile and textured loop are hard-wearing and show fewer vacuum marks. Cut-and-loop combines both for pattern.
• Weight and density. A heavier pile weight and denser tufting last longer in traffic areas; a lighter weight is fine for bedrooms.
• Colour. Mid-tones and flecked colours hide everyday soiling; very light and very dark plains show more. Order a sample and check it in the room at different times of day.
• Underlay. A good underlay adds comfort, insulation and years of life — ask us about the right density for your carpet.
