Standard-grade MDF has a typical density of 680kg/m3 – 730kg/m3
HDF (High Density Fibreboard/Hardboard) is like MDF in that it is a man-made composite panel product that is manufactured from compressed wood fibres. It is a stronger, harder product than MDF with a typical density of up to 900kg/m3. After testing, the density is in this range, the mechanical properties of the substrate is the best.
Suitable for areas with moderate foot traffic, so we won’t recommend installing this floorcovering in high traffic areas such as hallways or living rooms.
represents the highest rating for homeowners, so it’s intended to be used in any domestic areas that get heavy foot traffic. These include living rooms, hallways, conservatories, stairs, kitchen, etc.intended for commercial usage. AC4 rated laminate is also suitable for moderately trafficked commercial spaces such as boutiques, offices, salons, and cafes.
7mm is the “bottom of the barrel” laminate flooring, but let’s say you find an excellent price on it. Is it worth buying?
I discussed earlier that thickness isn’t the biggest factor in durability. It’s possible that a manufacturer could make a highly-durable 7mm laminate. The problem is they won’t.
And I can’t blame them. We talked earlier about thin laminate looking and sounding cheap. If manufacturers made 7mm durable, they’d create a floor that isn’t cheap (because it’s well-made) but looks cheap. There’s not too much of a market for that.
12mm laminates spot some of the coolest designs and are the closest looking and feeling to hardwood.
On the other hand, if you compare 7mm vs 12mm laminate, you’ll likely see a significant difference in all of the features that make thicker laminate better.
Laminate flooring in 12mm makes people have the comfortable foot-feeling as walking on hardwood flooring because it doesn’t have so much sound than 8mm. 12mm flooring will click together closely as it has deeper click profile. 12mm flooring can reduce the sound or noisy than 8mm.
Price wise, factories can charge more in thicker flooring than thinner flooring; actually, thicker flooring did cost more because more materials are involved in the production.

Stone Plastic Composite (SPC) – made from limestone and PVC. SPC hybrid flooring is slightly more durable and dense due to its limestone composition.
